Most Common Bartered Items

We all have something that has been sitting in our desks for some time. We may have placed a sentimental value to them that is why we keep them but mostly we do store them because we no longer have use for these items.

We know that they are worth a value and putting them to trash is such a waste, so instead of throwing them away, or just giving them to whoever needs them, you can also use old items to your and for others’ benefit. How? You can exchange items aka, barter.

(Read the Benefits of Bartering here)

Here are some of the most common bartered goods:

1. Clothes

Of course we do have a bunch of clothes we no longer use. That can be because the kids have grown, or you have lost weight or you no longer prefer this kind of style or they are just put of fashion.

Whatever it is you find boring in your closet might be bombastic for some, so you can pick from those clothes you no longer use and trade them for something you can wear today.

2. Gadgets

Technology changes over time. Some people are gadget enthusiasts that tend to update their technology as often as necessary. But that is not the case for everyone. Some prefer pre-owned handsets as in the case of an Iphone. So when you feel like your gadget is already out of date (at least in your own time frame) someone out there might just be needing the one right at that moment.

Go sign up in websites or post about this item and swap, swap, swap!

3. Services

Babysitting, lawn mowing, haircut, carpentry… name it, you can trade it! This is best when you want to save money from purchasing services when you can actually one in exchange of. When you do barter for services, you can be really specific like ” I will do one hour of babysitting in exchange of an hour of house cleaning every Saturday afternoon.”

This doesn’t just help you save money but introduces you to more people who can eventually refer you to others in exchange of not bartered service but of cash.

4. Gifts and Crafts

Christmas. Yes. We are almost near Christmas season and this kind of exchange gets a boost during the moment!

Do you have extra gift socks or decorations you no longer need and would want to trade with, say, cookie cutters or Christmas Tree decors? Go on, collect them and trade them! A lot of people nowadays prefer to save by re-using pre-loved items that are still pretty and sanitary. This could be really cool when you exchange with relatives or close friends or maybe trading with strangers can also add up to your already growing number of friends.

5. Toys

When the children grow up, they end up in your display cabinet. Sad, right? Even if they give you some cute memories like how you brush Barbie’s hair or how you play soldier when the kids were little, there is nothing more cheerful than trading these stuff for things your children can find beneficial now.

Trading toys with other toys (remember age appropriate?) Will give you more choices and can help you assist other people as well. By giving toys that other children need in exchange of stuff or toys that is more appropriate to your kids now, will save you money and space as well.

However, bartering is not limited to these items only since trading has now become really diverse. But one tip though, be sure that you are getting the value of what your good is worth.

I am 25 today and why I am spending it alone

If you are reading this post it means that I am perfectly spending this day alone somewhere and that today I have outlived most people in the planet and today is the oldest I can get so far.

I planned to have an astounding party and gather everyone who impacted my life in the most positive way in the last 25 years and then this hit me: I am NOT a Jenner or a Hilton and social parties do not define who I am and who the people are around me.

I am a typical person with nothing too significant to actually attract a crowd to my hosted parties. But I am now over the moments when my significance was dependent on the followers I get because right now, the more we get to be online,  the more we become disconnected.

I could have thrown a huge party but I didn’t because I wanted to know who would want to be with me without the benefit of an extravagant party, expensive raffle prizes, a nice place, good vibe, cool party music and amazing photos.

image

But I love you God for breathing life to my body. No amount of oxygen tanks can replace the workings of my lungs.

Thank you to everyone who greeted me today; I love you to everyone who never forgets since The-Year-Before-Facebook.

To that person who I consider the great love of my life, I am blessed, you are all that is wonderful in my world: thank you for becoming the bestest best friend I ever had.

My family: the greatest people in the world, no words could be enough for you. The few friends I have: you made all the disappointments bearable and the parties crazier than they should have been.

To everyone who hates me in secret, don’t worry there are still more to despise since you can watch me become better than today. I love how you say “no” because you make me “go for it.”

I am 25 today and I wish to meet the first few people who ever saw me: the medical team who assisted my mom on 26th August 1990 at 7:30 PM. Thank you for not pulling on my head and chopping it off in the process (figuratively speaking).

I have grown now, doc. That is what I would say.

This world is so big I cannot fully fathom what I should and couldn’t go where I would. But there are worlds that are a lot smaller than others that exist that when you look at them, they may be incomplete in someone else’s lenses but in yours… they’re just so… perfect.

I am elated today as it is “my day” but tomorrow I am nobody again.

So for one day each year before this all ends, I get to conquer “the world.”

Isn’t that beautiful?

Love: 30 Years After Time

Love is all rainbows and stars to most girls and they equate it to flowers, date nights or dancing at parties with that great guy with gorgeous hair. Yes, it’s always the gorgeous hair and that holding hands under the light post.

But you would come to a certain age when you will be able to appreciate it truly and deeply as what it really is: a deep connection between you and another person that ripples all the positive thoughts in the world: happiness.

But sometimes great love is not romantic love. Sometimes it is just being there and remembering all that was special. You don’t always end up with the love of your life but it’s okay. Or if you did, you are lucky.

There are moments when a relationship must end not because it is a mistake but because you just had to fulfill a role in a particular person’s specific chapter in life. We don’t know the real reasons why we meet people we love so much who we just end up forgetting but it happens and when it does, we laugh, we love, we cry, then we move forward.

But how would you feel when you let go and then met that person three decades after? It can be surreal and I have seen one video that made me shed tears and realised that truly, some people are so special they struck a spark in you and you never forget them.

In this video, the female artist held a meet up with fans wherein she just sat there and stared at them for a minute. All was smooth and similar: calm, quiet faces until a man she loved 30 years ago who she haven’t seen since their breakup sat and met her eyes.

What happened was so beautiful it formed a lump in my chest. And as the song faded out, I wished that someday that one great love would come back and would just

Why Aldub is Probably the Most Kilig Love Team To Date

“Aldub you”
“Mainenamahal kita”
“MaAlden kita”

These are the most common pun circulating around the social media circle in the Philippines so far popularized by today’s most famous love team: Aldub.

“Aldub you” sounds like “I love you,” “Mainenamahal kita” is a pun for “minamahal kita,” a Tagalog expression that translates to “I am in love with you” and MaAlden kita is equal to Tagalog’s “Mahal din kita or  “I love you, too” in English.

What or Who is Aldub?

For your information, in the Philippines, the names of each person in a love team is combined to form a unique name (or as in the case in Hollywood). Aldub stands for Alden and Yaya Dub. This love team started middle this year in the noon time show, Eat Bulaga, in their segment called Juan for All, All for Juan, wherein some of the show’s hosts go to different provinces for a noon time game.

One day, different characters were introduced in the game segment to probably create a different feel to the show. They are: Lola Nidora, a rich old lady played by a man, Wally Bayola, Frankie, a rich person played by Jose Manalo and Yaya Dub, played by the popular dubsmasher, Maine Mendoza. (Yaya means nanny in English).

Who is Alden and Yaya Dub?

image

Maine Mendoza, the Dubsmash Queen, aka Yaya Dub, is an online personality who got popular due to her crazy dubsmashing skills. She has several dubsmash videos that reached million of views already. She was then signed to be casted in Eat Bulaga’s segment, Juan for All, All for Juan as the snobbish, dubsmashing nanny of Lola Nidora.

(Check Maine’s Dubsmash Compilation here.)

Alden Richards, also called Bae Alden, is a young heartthrob who is also a regular host of Eat Bulaga. During the Juan for All segment, Eat Bulaga is shown in a split screen: one screen features the “cast” of Juan for All who are filmed in the province, while the second screen shows the studio hosts. The hosts from the studio in Broadway and from the set in the province freely interact, thus, giving birth to the first ever Kalye Serye (Street Series) in the Philippines.

How did Aldub Start?

There was an episode during the Juan for All segment, where Yaya Dub was lip synching a Chinese sound clip but she got distracted towards the end. This was the time when the camera fixated to Alden, showing Yaya Dub and Alden on both screens. Due to the show’s “semi reality” set up, Yaya Dub was caught acting giddy with her eyes widening as she saw Alden “staring” at her from the Broadway studio.

Her character was supposedly snobbish but that moment was apparently the “first time” she was caught smiling. The other hosts started teasing her and Alden and that’s how the Aldub love team came about and it has made noise in the social media ever since.

So what makes this love team the most nakakilig (something that makes you giddy) love team? Here are some theories:

1. It exists in a really unique platform: A Kalye Serye (Street Series)

It is a reality show slash scripted series. How is this so? The first set of hosts stay in the studio, the other set of hosts are sent to different provinces for a segment and these hosts are playing in characters.

This is where the script comes in. There is a story line, however, their dialogues play along memorized lines, dubsmashes and tons and tons of adlibs. Studio hosts also chip in during the “characters'” conversation so we can say that “play time” is also part of the story. It is like a comedy/drama show within a noon time show.

Wally Bayola and the other cast go on set in their characters. As they go on with a story, the studio hosts are “inserted” into the storyline, wherein they comment or react to the cast’s dialogue or reactions, making it appear a “reality” show. and the crazy thing is, this series go on live! So the audience are able to see raw footages and some uncalled for scenarios that the noon time show’s hosts, both on set and in studio, were able to convert to hilarious scenes.

2. Aldub has never met even once

Since Yaya Dub is considered a “field character,” she has never met Alden in person yet. So how did the love team flourish? Through split screens. Yes.

They manage to communicate through the screens fixed on the studio and on set. And no, they have never said a word to each other but you see them use flash cards to express themselves.

You see them waving to each other, blowing kisses and feeling all happy. Fans are also  part of this “series” since you hear their voices in the background and you see them there, too. With this kind of set up, everything feels actual hence, the kilig between Alden and Yaya Dub appears true.

image

3. No one has heard Yaya talk

Since Yaya Dub is a dubsmasher, another mystery to her character is the sound of her voice. Has anyone ever heard of Yaya Dub’s voice yet? As far as we know, no one yet. All the other characters from the Kalye Serye are able to speak dialogues but Yaya has never spoken once.

What does she do? She dubs sound clips relevant to the discussion. If not, she writes on a flash card. We see her dance and lip synch but we never actually hear her talk.

4. We wonder what is gonna happen on their first date

Like what I said, the story is light and presented in a hilarious manner. There are no heavy mysteries to it, no drama, no killings no over acting kontrabidas and the audience are also involved in the story — an experience that has never been given to fans before!

But one moment we are all waiting for is the day Aldub will finally meet. We know that the “love team” is scripted that started with the teasing, but with the seryes’s style of blurring the lines between which is scripted and which is not, we can’t help but wonder what is gonna happen next.

Will we finally see a real spark between them? Will we finally hear Yaya’s voice? Or could Aldub’s tears and flash notes be real?

Well, that is intriguing especially if you saw Alden’s controversial 17-second-tweet that says “I think I’m falling for MM.”

Sorry, but Alden allegedly deleted this post from his official Twitter account a few seconds after posting it. But come on, we know who MM is, right? That is Yaya Dub’s alter ego: Maine Mendoza.

And here is something Aldub fans can cheer for: apparently, sources say that Alden’s twitter account has been working properly and has never been hacked.

Here is how they met:

Should the Philippines legalise Medical Marijuana?

Marijuana is illegal. That is for sure. But how far do we limit the use of this “drug” if there are proven medicinal benefits to its use?

This is being debated over in the Philippines as some parents of children suffering from epilepsy request for the government to pass a bill legalising the use of marijuana in the medical field — especially now that there are reports stating that marijuana when used medicinally can cure symptoms of certain diseases like HIV and epilepsy amongst others.

In fact, this practice has been approved in over 21 states in the US and some countries in Europe.

One psychedelic drug that is currently on clinical trials in  SF Bay Area is ecstacy,  also called as MDMA, originally known as a recreational drug. The American FDA initially does not find therapeutic effects in this drug, however, it is believed to give the “feeling of love and caring” according to Dr. Phil Wolfson, the lead of the 15-month clinical trial of prescribing ecstacy to dying patients in San Francisco.

image

A post from  The Washington Times  said that Wolfson, who has offices in San Francisco and Marin County, admits to having first-hand experience on the drug’s elating effect when he used it when his son was dying of Leukemia. He said that it makes one accepting of his own failures and difficulties and enables one to own them better.  NBC  also quoted Wolfson saying that “It tends to bring on a mood change.”

In the Philippines, The Catholic Church’s opinion plays a huge impact on people’s ideas on certain bills. When the church’s opinion regarding the matter was sought, the representatives said they would support such a move as long as these drugs will be used accordingly to cure disease and not as “party uppers.”

This is related to what the US FDA spokesperson, Sandy Walsh said. She argued that she thinks that the American FDA has an obligation to do as necessary to further understand these drugs’ positive impact medicinally such as allowing clinical trials to proceed, if a drug can work for a disabling condition and can be labeled to be used safely to a population.

Knowing that such measures can be applied if ever this practice would be approved, some people, both from the church and the government, believe that it can help improve patient care and bring on progress and better control to lifetime illnesses, thus policy makers should consider medical marijuana legalisation.
