La Mesa Dam Threatens to Overflow

METRO MANILA, PHILIPPINES – The La Mesa Dam reaches the elevation point beyond red range, thus being placed under red alert.

Quezon City officials have already suggested preemptive evacuation to residents along the Tullahan river due to the risk of La Mesa Dam overspilling.


PAGASA Hydrologist, Richard Orendain, confirmed as of 11 am yesterday that the dam is currently at 79.58 metres within its spilling level of 80.15 metres. CNN Philippines lists possible areas to be affected as per La Mesa Dam Management:

North Fairview, Greater Fairview, Sta. Lucia, Gulod San Bartolome, Sta. Monica, Novaliches Proper, Nagkaisang Nayon, San Agustin

Gen. T. de Leon, Maconacon Ugong, Karuhatan, Maysan Parada
Paso de Blas, Bagbaguin, Mapulang Lupa

La Mesa’s water rises at about 2cm per hour and emergency centres in Quezon City, Navotas and Malabon were already alerted regarding possible danger.
